Formerly known as UPSA

The Alejandro de Humboldt Environmental Services Budgetary Unit (CESAT), founded in 1999, has a mission focused on the protection and conservation of protected areas in the province of Guantánamo, providing support to the Provincial System of Protected Areas (SPAP). Its vision includes diversifying and consolidating scientific and technological services, improving the environmental conditions of the areas under its administration and having highly trained professionals in environmental matters. Among its general objectives are to guarantee and preserve the biophysical integrity of protected areas, conduct research on natural resources and ecosystem services, and contribute to the legalization process of the protected areas proposed for the Provincial System of Protected Areas.

The organization operates in the province of Guantánamo and in the eastern end of the province of Holguín, as part of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and subordinate to the Cuban Environmental Agency.

CESAT's scope in the CCR project focuses on the development and implementation of strategic AbE plans, the creation of integrated water management systems, the introduction of climate-smart agricultural techniques, and the strengthening of community governance through capacity building and risk management measures. These actions aim to reduce vulnerability to climate change, improve local productivity and promote environmentally friendly practices.
